April's We're All Ears Inspiration is from Spain

The City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, Spain

The City of Arts and Sciences is an impressive complex located in Valencia, Spain.  I had no idea that the City of Arts and Science complex even existed until I read about it on the We're All Ears Blog. It was created as a way to honor the melding of science, technology, nature and art. These buildings were conceived and designed by renowned Spanish architects Santiago Calatrava and Félix Candela.  I would love to see it in person.

Our challenge for this month was to figure out which building piques our interest the most and create a pair of earrings inspired by it.  I selected the Ágora.

The Ágora is an outdoor amphitheater that can seat up to 6,000 for concerts and events such as the Valencia Open 500, an international tennis competition.  A suspension bridge called Assut de l'Or Bridge ("The Dam of the Gold") connects visitors to the City of Arts and Sciences. The structure seen through the wires of the bridge is the Agora.

Orange and Yellow Floral Earrings by BayMoonDesign
The upper half of the floral earrings that I created for this challenge are inspired by the brown color and round shape of the  dome of this building.  The lower portion of the earrings are inspired by the purpose of the building--an outdoor amphitheater.  I choose to put some flowers into the design because I imagine people enjoying the sounds and sights of the outside in beautiful, warm weather.  Their senses are exposed to sound, smell, and sight.

I encourage you to visit my online store to see more of my jewelry.

  5. What a lovely interpretation, to focus on the senses rather than the architecture and come up with such a lovely earthy design. Very pretty earrings xx

  7. I love how you captured the dome, and what is really cool is that you thought of the use of the building and captured sensory representations in your design. I remember reading about the walkway containing a garden of indigenous plant life, and you addressed that idea. Isn 't it interesting how we all interpret these inspirations differently?

  10. I actually didn't know anything about this until I somehow stumbled on it! I find this complex fascinating. It is something so beautiful and so embracing of community. A must-see for sure! I love the earrings you created and the reason for each component. I imagine that this would be a wonderful place to see an outdoor concert or event and you captured that coming-together nicely! Enjoy the day! Erin
