Flags for Heroes |
I have returned to my small town of Lewes, Delaware. I discovered a new plan for Memorial Day weekend in place. The Rehoboth
Rotary Club and the City of Lewes, Delaware, have partnered in a
highly visible display of patriotism with its Flags For Heroes 2013
campaign. The Rotary has mounted a display of hundreds of flags over the
Memorial Day weekend. The flags are on the front lawn of
Cape Henlopen High School, along Kings Highway, over the Memorial Day
weekend. It is a grand display.
Fortunately, I made my earrings for Reveal 10 of the AJE Earring Challenge in Florida before I left for Lewes because I haven't made a piece of jewelry since returning. I have been busy with getting ready for Memorial Day weekend. I have a full house of people and cats here for food and the beach. I have also been preparing for th
e Delaware by Hand Members Show . This is the 4th year that the show has been held on the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend in the gardens behind the Zwaanendael Museum in Lewes.
While in Florida I found some great beads for sale on the
Artisan Whimsy website. I was drawn to them by their rich color and then by their story. These yellow and orange stripped ceramics are by
Work of Our Hands Namibia whose mission is to provide hope and dignity for the unemployed through the creation of cottage industries which produce handicrafted products for local and international markets. Another admirable partnership!
I paired the ceramics with carnelian beads just under the ear wires and copper for a warm boho look. These
earrings are available for purchase in my
Etsy shop.
I used another pair of ceramic beads with a hint of a brown by Work of Our Hands
Namibia in my second pair of earrings for this reveal. This time I paired the ceramics
with natural betel nut beads and copper for a warm boho look. These earrings sold in a flash at the
4th Delaware by Hands Members Show yesterday.
The
4th Delaware by Hands Members Show was well attended. In attendance was a Gale Force wind and cool temperatures. I wore my winter jacket and leather gloves. What weather! Needless to say there weren't a lot of folks on the beach, but the town is full of folks celebrating Memorial Day.
Those flags are beautiful. What a wonderful display for Memorial Day!
ReplyDeleteI love your earrings, especially the second pair with the nut beads!
