Getting Creative with Cabs--Cabochons Challenge/Hop!

I want to thank Sally Russick for creating this challenge.  If it weren't for her and her wonderful tutorials on her website, I would still have 2 beautiful cabochons that are in need of beading.  Now I have 2 beautiful pieces of jewelry.

The rules for the challenge were simple:
1. Create a piece of jewelry

2. Use at least one cabochon in your design

3.  HAVE fun!

I won a green and pink cabochons last year and I put them aside because I had no idea what to do with them and then Sally came along with her challenge.  I got both of them out and ordered supplies that Sally suggested.

Tools that I ordered:

beading needles -Size 12
sewing scissors or scissors with a sharp tip
e6000 glue

Supplies that I used:

2 cabochons
seed beads size 11/0  2 colors for each
seed beads size 15/0 1 color for each
C-lon beading thread in several matching colors
Lacy’s Stiff Stuff
Felt 

I used all of Sally's videos and followed them step by step to create the green and pink cabs.
The green cab is on a silk ribbon and the pink I have yet to decide on what I will put it on.  I am waiting to get some ideas from the others on this blog hop.

I found it very relaxing beading these pieces.  I had to work under a lamp with magnification, but I do with all of my jewelry.  I loved having the videos available since I could pause and replay as often as necessary.  Sally was there holding my hand through the entire process.  I contacted her several times with questions and she got back to me promptly.  I as really pleased with how both of mine turned out.  I still want to spend some time creating something special to put my pink cab on.  I am open to suggestions!

Recharging My Inspiration in Nature

Kathy at Mount Rushmore, South Dakota

My husband and I and our 3 cats have left Lewes, Delaware in our truck and camper and have set out to see  some more of the West.  We have spent a few days in South Dakota and have seen Mount Rushmore and Horse Thief which close to Mt. Rushmore.  Both are just gorgeous!

I know that this trip will provide me with inspirations for my Bay Moon Design creations.  Green is my favorite color and I am seeing so many vibrant shades in nature.

Devil's Tower, Wyoming

We have also taken a trip to see Devil's Tower in Wyoming.   The sky our west has lots of puffy white clouds set against beautiful blues.  Along the coasts in the U.S., pollution often makes the contrast in colors much less.

Buffalo Roaming in the Grasslands

I have a greater appreciation for wildlife.  It is hard to believe that millions of buffalo once roamed free and almost became extinct.

Crazy Horse Monument

I have always felt bad about the history of our Native American Indians in the 1800 and 1900's.   Imagining how they must have lived on this beautiful land and seeing their current life on reservations just increases this sadness for them.

Badlands

It is easy to see why the Indians thought that gods lived in the Badlands.  The colors are inspiring.  The geology is spectacular. 

I am excited to set out for the Grand Tetons today.  What an adventure!

 It will also be 2 weeks with limited Internet access.  I am a real Internet junkie so this will be a true challenge for me.  I did plan ahead and my blog showing what I created with Sally Russick's wonderful tutorials on beading cabochons is written and scheduled to be published.  I hope you will enjoy seeing what I did for the challenge.  I can't wait to see what others created, but I will have to wait until I return from Yellowstone.

Polka Dot Earrings Available in Bay Moon Design Etsy Store

These fun and colorful polka dot earrings are made with polka dot lampwork beads combined with blue swarovski crystal beads and long silver plated earwires. The are long earrings that hang about 2.25 inches.

The lampwork beads are one of a kind. They are by Work of Our Hands Namibia whose mission is to provide hope and dignity for the unemployed through the creation of cottage industries which produce handcrafted items.

Queen Anne's Lace is an import from Europe

The polka dot earrings are a result of a camping trip to Rocky Gap State Park in Maryland's Western Allegany County.  I was surrounded by lush greens everywhere.

Here at the beach in Lewes, we always have lots of visitors in the summer.  Traditionally, Labor Day marks the end of the summer season at the beach.  The locals always love to see the tourists leave.

Kalmar Nyckel in Lewes, Delaware

The Kalmar Nyckel is here in Lewes through Labor Day.  Locals and tourists love seeing this replica of one of America's pioneering colonial ships, a Mayflower of the Delaware Valley.

The original Kalmar Nyckel served as Governor Peter Minuit’s flagship for the 1638 expedition that founded the colony of New Sweden, establishing the first permanent European settlement in the Delaware Valley, Fort Christina in present-day Wilmington, Delaware.  She would make a total of four roundtrip crossings of the Atlantic, more than any other documented ship of the American colonial era.  

The original ship was built by the Dutch in Amsterdam in about the year 1625.  She was purchased in 1629 to serve as an auxiliary warship for the Swedish navy, which she did until her decommissioning in 1651 — except for the years from 1637 to 1644 when she sailed the Atlantic for the New Sweden Company.  This ship had a long and remarkable career.   She was sold to a private merchant after being decommissioned from the navy.  No definitive records have been uncovered as of yet, but Kalmar Nyckel was probably resold to the Dutch navy as an escort vessel and sunk in the North Sea while fighting in a war against the English in 1652. 

Lots of Sailing will take place in Lewes over Labor Day Weekend

With Lewes being on the water, lots of folks will be sailing or boating all weekend.
