Lush Soup Ingredients sent to me by Karla Morgan |
My
Bead Soup blog hop partner is Karla Morgan of
Texas Pepper Jams is from New Braunfels, Texas. Karla sent a wonderful mix of beads--agate from Guadalajara, Mexico,
coral, chinese crystals, lava, shell, carnelian, jade, and moss jasper.
She included a vintage lucite focal that was her grandmothers, and a
copper clasp that she made. I appreciate her thoughtfulness in giving
me lucite that was her grandmother's. I knew right away that I had to make something with a bead so special. Of course, her mix would have to
include the map of Texas that she made from copper.
|
Vintage Lucite Focal layered on top of Karla's cut metal, some of her beads, and her copper clasp |
I had some Vintaj chain and Irish Waxed Linen thread that I used to suspend the focal from and attach the beads. I used some beads that Karla sent and some I had. I happened to have some fabric from a previous blog hop with orange and gold that was perfect to weave through Vintaj chain. Of course, Karla's copper clasp was perfect for my color palette. I usually don't make jewelry with large components so this was a challenge for me. In fact, when I first saw the chain that I bought from Vintaj I thought I would never use it because it was much larger than I thought. It has turned out to be perfect for a number of pieces that are now in my
online shop.
Once again, my large
Vintaj chain works well with another necklace. This
green necklace has the natural copper bar that Karla made and some of the blue green artisan ceramics that she sent me. I used a large, green ceramic focal that I got from Marsha Neal and some natural copper that I had to attach the focal to the bar. I created the circular, copper clasp to
mirror the circles in the focal with some copper I had on hand. I
love the boho look of this necklace.
As soon as I saw the hot pink lava beads that Karla sent I new they would be perfect for these
earrings.
I still have metal and beads left for another time. I would like to thank Lori Anderson for organizing this blog hop of 500 participants. What a huge labor of love! She is also hosting the
list of all of the participants on her blog .

ReplyDeleteSo cool! I think my favourite is the first necklace with the heirloom bead - especially because it has a story - that, and I love that you wove your fabric through the chain!
ReplyDeleteI loved the pink lava earrings. How very thoughtful your bead soup partner was
ReplyDeleteI really like how you matched that beautiful fabric with the components on the first necklace, and I simply love the swirly focal bead and piece as a whole - your second necklace. I'll be certain to check your shop too.

Your necklace has it all: knotting, metal chain, a gorgeous focal and fabric! It is gorgeous. I also really like the other necklace, the metal parts are stunning and also the color combo
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pieces! Seriously love that green and orange necklace! And the earrings!
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect colour combination your 'Green Necklace' has, just♥love♥ it! Love the way you worked with the waxed linen and the huge chains too, really beautiful, you created some ♥♥♥ pieces!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful earth tone pieces with a punch of pink earrings.
ReplyDeleteLovely lovely pieces.
ReplyDeleteHow cool it is that you & Karla Morgan of Texas Pepper Jams were partnered for this wonderful party! I just love your pairing! Kathy, you created very cool and earthy and chic jewelry here! The natural warm tones are made even richer within your designs -- the green Marsha Neal next to copper wrappings & the cool copper bar, the lovely earth/sky color ceramics from Karla, and that gorgeous spiral clasp you created! And the Vintaj chain along with Irish waxed linen in your first piece accentuate so well the sunset colorway of Karla's handcrafted copper components, beads, and (horseshoe? :) clasp. Splendid and again, rich, while having that gentle cozy feeling of Boho design and wonderful art jewelry elements. The earrings -- I didn't realize the rosy vibrant beads were lava! Oh I love that! And I love the combination of vibrant berry pink enameled beadcaps & clear crystal & oh, the gold of your earrings. I adore gold in handcrafted jewelry & it is a rare, elegant, higher end treat whenever I see it used in jewelry. (I'm thinking these are the ones you designed again, right?) A sophisticated, lovely post with a powerful collection of jewelry: glowing, energized, warm, thoughtful, joyful jewelry design. Happy Hopping! ♥ Rita
ReplyDeleteBoth necklaces are beautiful! The lucite na map of Texas - absolutely great paring, not to mention the red beads you added to the chain - they brighten the whole piece in a very soft way! I like the color combo of the green necklace and the way you attached the focal and made a matching clasp is very creative. Also I like the pairing of different color metal findings in the earrings to match those red lava beads!
ReplyDeleteWow what a great collection!! I love everything! Your designs are vibrant and and full of life.
ReplyDeleteThose hot pink earrings are so cute and different. Love what you did with the copper Texas! Great use of your soup!
